28 July - Next major step in the 11th Cavalry Memorial Project!

The project to move our Memorial Monument from Fort Knox to Fort Benning is gaining steam. Three weeks ago, Rondo Jackson and his team of volunteers in the Fort Knox area steam cleaned all of the pavers and the obelisks. Beginning the 21st of July, all of the pavers will be picked up, cleaned, catalogued (marking the location of each brick) and packed on pallets ready for shipment. A professional contractor will remove the four monuments and prepare them for the move. The concrete pad surrounding the memorial will be removed and the entire area will be cleared and reseeded.

The next key date is scheduled for the 28th of July, when all the components will be loaded on a lowboy and transported to Columbus, GA, where they will be stored until early 2015 when construction of the new site will begin. We hope to have a full report of the move in the August edition of this electronic newsletter.

Attention - Blackhorse Motorcyclists!!

We realize that this is very short notice (because of changing availability of the cranes required to do the work at Fort Knox), but you are more than welcome to travel with the truck that will be carrying our memorial to Columbus.
If you would like to participate, please contact Rondo Jackson directly at 270-242-2833for the latest timing plans.
